What does OG mean?
When you want to know the meaning of "OG", there are two theories. One of them is that it means "original gangsta", in reference to the rap group Cypress Hill. The other theory, and one that is more accepted among professional growers, is that it means "Ocean Grow".
Original Gangsta or Ocean Grow?
This theory comes from a producer, John, in California, who gave him a cut of Chemdawg to a producer in Los Angeles named Putz. Putz then crossed in a Lemon Thai x Pakistani Kush hybrid, giving birth to OG Kush. Putz was allegedly told that his buds tasted like they grew in the mountains, to which he replied, "This Kush is an ocean."
The rest, as they say, is history.
The high demand for ChemDawg, OG and Kush varieties

Why is OG Kush so expensive?
Well, apart from the constant demand, is also infamous for being demanding to grow. If not grown exactly right, it will produce some pretty low yields. From an investment point of view, producers have a lot to lose, and this tends to reduce the available supply.
Despite being known as difficult to grow, OG Kush is still popular. TO people love it for its unique taste, aroma, look, feel and euphoric cerebral euphoria . It's a potent strain, to be sure, and it's not for the newer smoker or someone who's lazy on tolerance.
The dense buds of OG Kush plants are vivid green in color, and generally have a super coarse powder of crystals that will leave your fingers sticky long after you've handled it. Tends to taste like Earthy wood with a strong pine aroma and dense smoke. You can expect intense euphoria, followed by a couch lock and very large snacks.
OG Kush has a THC concentration with levels that average 21-24%, and some of its related strains are even higher than that. When grown properly, this strain is a must have for cannabis connoisseurs, and has earned its place on the "Must Try" List.
OG Kush has also been used by medical marijuana patients in the treatment of disease Alzheimer's, depression, bipolar disorder, pain and nausea.
Is it OG Kush Indica or Sativa?
Again, this depends on who you ask.
Most of the strains generally sold are different phenotypes of OG Kush. Different strains have different genotypes, which is the genetic makeup of the plant and it is what makes them unique. If two strains have the same genotype, but have different physical attributes (such as height or coloration), then the phenotype will be different.

What is Cannabis Kush?
Cannabis Kush is a variety in the Cannabis family and is descended from the Hindu Kush mountains. Mountains are one of the few geographic regions that they house the cannabis plant natively.
OG Kush (commonly known as Ocean Grown Kush) was first grown in the early 1990s in Florida. The product was the result of cross pollination with a Hindu Kush plant from Amsterdam. The resulting strain was a hybrid that had a unique terpene profile and boasted a complex aroma with notes of spice, skunk, and fuel.
Attributes of Cannabis Kush
The Kush cannabis strain is characterized by the following attributes:
- Odor: scent ranges from floral to earthy, pine, spicy, sweet fruit, incense, pepper, hash, herbs, citrus and chemical gas (chemdawg)
- Appearance: the Kush strain may appear with dark green tails and leaves exhibiting hints of purple. The hairs (pistils) may appear bronze, rust-colored, or orange. The shoots are generally thick, dense, or knotted.
- Flavor: The mild or vapor generated when smoking the Kush strain is generally smooth and herbaceous with a grape, citrus, flower, diesel and earth flavor.
- Effects edit- The effects of the Kush strain are usually heavy and sedating.

Difference between Kush and OG
Notable differences between the two cannabis strains include:
Origin of Kush vs. OG
The Kush strain originated in the Hindu Kush mountains, while the OG strain originated from a cross of a Hindu Kush plant in Florida in 1990.
The composition of Kush vs. OG
The Kush strain is made up of relatively higher levels of fenchol, camphene, α-terpineol, linalool, and terpinolene. The OG strain, on the other hand, mainly contains compounds of guaiol, myrcene, α-pinene, β-eudesmol, and trans-ocimene.
Summary of Kush vs. OG
The Kush and OG varieties are both Cannabis Sativa varieties, although each has outstanding characteristics. From region of origin to attributes, effects and components, it is clear that the two strains differ from each other. However, a frequent user can differentiate from each other depending on the effects it will have on their body and mind.

That's what a phenotype is: a difference in overall appearance.
The "general appearance" or "phenotype" includes everything from atoms to cell structure, which is a function or behavior of that plant. This is why there are variations in aroma, flavor profiles, and effects, which means that there are endless possibilities for phenotypes.
OG Kush and Chemdawg are generally considered indica dominant hybrids from around the 75% indica and 25% sativa. Given that, most people would assume it would have a strong relaxation effect. However, many users have reported that it gives them strong sativa-like effects, like the euphoria mentioned above.
This is an argument that doesn't really have much information on it, considering the fact that genetics is mostly unknown. Most of the different types of OG strains are Phenotypes of the original OG Kush plant from the 90s.
He environment dictates what the phenotype of the cannabis plant will be. A phosphorus deficiency, for example you can severely retard growth from a plant, which would make it look more indica (sativas are taller). Sometimes different phenotypes can even have more differences than just physical, so two Kush strains could have completely different cannabinoid / terpene profiles.
Reviews on Chemdawg varieties
Here's what some people who have tried OG Kush have had to say about it:
-Really hits like a sativa. It's powerful, makes you super happy and giggly, and gives you super strong snacks. You do get that couch lock, but it's more of a laughing social laugh. It is also delicious, with a pine aroma and earthy flavor. For me, this is how the herb should taste. - Jeffrey H.
-Okay. That is a POWERFUL strain. I took about two hits, and I was good. It's definitely high up, and I couldn't stop laughing at my dog trying to catch the ice cube on the kitchen floor. It is very earthy and piney. I love it-. - Jordi S.
-The feeling of euphoria helps to counteract my depressive processes and but still allows me to concentrate on my work and the tasks I am doing -. - Michelle S.
